Bill Brady
Currently a State Senator 44th District

---Primary 2010 Conclusions---

Is Mr. Brady sincere regarding his ethics/reform ideas and actions or is he just playing for the attention because reform is what people want to hear about? As one who has 16 years of experience in the state legislature he has proposed reforms to a legislative body that he knows is tainted and he admits will not likely support meaningful action while controlled by the likes of Senate Leader John Cullerton (D) and House Leader Michael Madigan (D). In addition, Mr. Brady is suggesting fumigation without any suggestion of the investigation that would definitely be required to protect the innocent as well as truly root out the guilty. Has he even thought through the details, effort and strategy required to achieve meaningful reform measures and flush the corrupt from state government!?!?!

Let's remember, the point is to elect a strong new leader with honor, integrity and respect. One who is not afraid to propose as well as support bold ideas for meaningful reform moving forward. One who seeks ways to cleanup corrupt road blocks to justice and prosperity.

If a leader can't get a handle on the culture of corruption thus leaving the tainted in control how can we expect that this leader will somehow miraculously achieve real success elsewhere.

Chicago Tribune, 9/22/09

State Sen. Bill Brady, a Republican candidate for governor, today assailed the control Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan has over state government and proposed term limits, a return to multi-member House districts and campaign finance reforms.

"We have reached a point where too few people control too much and the power is too concentrated," Brady said. "There's no question that the speaker of the House, representing little over 100,000 people, has had absolute control over the state of Illinois. He's been able to do that for nearly three decades and it's time for that to end."

Brady proposed a combination of state constitutional amendments and legislation to implement what he called his government reform package.

But the Bloomington Republican, who has spent seven years in the House and a like amount of time in the Senate, acknowledged it was unlikely that the Democratic-dominated legislature would put the constitutional changes on the November 2010 general election ballot. Madigan, of Chicago, has served as speaker of the House for 24 of the past 26 years.

Reclaim Illinois comment: Mr. Brady, how about some reform ideas that don't involve proposals to a legislature you acknowledge is unlikely to act??

Bill Brady's ideas on Ethics/Reform

Senator Brady has proposed a government reform package to a legislature that he acknowledges is unlikely to ever take action.

Mr. Brady supports capping individual campaign contributions at $4,800 for a primary-general election cycle and prohibiting union and corporate contributions.

Mr. Brady has proposed term limits. He would limit legislators to five terms in the House and three terms in the Senate.

Mr. Brady supports a redistricting plan that recognizes county, township and city boundaries to the extent possible to eliminate legislative gerrymandering, and gives citizens representation in the legislature through three-member House districts.

Mr. Brady is a cosponsor of legislation that would give the citizens of Illinois the right to recall public officials who violate the public trust and has sponsored anti-corruption legislation, including a law that prevents companies or individuals with state contracts from making campaign contributions and legislation that gives greater protection and incentive for whistleblowers.

Mr. Brady strongly supports legislation to fire state employees hired directly by the governor over the last ten years.

Mr. Brady drafted legislation to abolish legislative scholarships.
